About this piece
The full-size versions of this pattern are the windows of Bhaktapur's Durbar Square, where the lattice is cut fine enough to see out of but not in. This is a scaled panel meant for a wall.
Sal is dense, oily and dimensionally stable, which is why Newari carvers have used it for centuries. It arrives unfinished; the colour will deepen from honey to a dark red-brown over about two years.
Hanging hardware is not fitted — the back is flat and takes a French cleat cleanly.

Care & keeping
Dust with a soft dry brush. Once or twice a year, wipe with a cloth barely damp with linseed or walnut oil. Keep away from radiators and direct sun, which will open the grain.
