About this piece
Every Nepali kitchen has one, and there is a reason people keep using them next to a blender: a blade chops and aerates, while a stone crushes and releases oils. Chutney made on a silauto tastes different and everyone in the house can tell.

The surface is left deliberately rough. It smooths with years of use and can be re-dressed with a chisel when it does.

Season it before first use: grind a handful of rice to a paste, discard, and repeat twice.
How it was made

Care & keeping
