About this piece
Ganesh sits at the threshold of most Newari houses in the valley, usually in stone, usually worn smooth on the belly where passers-by have touched it for luck over a century or two.
Carved in the round rather than in relief, so it reads from every side. The undercutting around the arms is the part that takes the time.
