About this piece
A gagri starts as a flat circle of copper and is hammered into a hollow form over a series of stakes, annealed repeatedly to stop the metal work-hardening and cracking. The base is a separate raised piece, joined and planished until the seam disappears.
Still used daily across Kathmandu Valley for carrying and storing water. As a domestic object outside Nepal it works as a vase or simply as a piece of shape.
The surface will darken to a deep russet. Most people leave it.

Care & keeping
Wipe with a dry cloth. A darkening patina is normal on hand-raised bronze and many owners prefer it; if you want it bright, use a little tamarind paste or a proprietary brass polish and buff dry. Never put it in a dishwasher.
