About this piece
A doko is woven from the base up in an open hexagonal weave that lets air through and keeps the weight down — the design has been optimised over centuries for carrying up hills.
The hardest part is the splitting, not the weaving: strips are shaved to even thickness by eye, drawn against a fixed blade. Uneven strips give a basket that goes out of round within a year.

Care & keeping
Keep it dry. If it dries out and stiffens in a heated room, mist it lightly with water once a season.
