Lokta Journal, Hand-Stitched, A5
Bark paper · 120 pages
A Coptic-bound journal in unbleached lokta. The paper takes fountain pen ink beautifully — no feathering, no bleed-through — and the exposed spine stitching lets the book lie completely flat.

About this piece
The long interlocked fibres are what make it strong and archival. Nepali legal and religious documents on lokta have survived a thousand years; the same is not true of anything made from wood pulp.
Coptic binding means no glue in the spine, so it opens flat at any page.
How it was made

Excellent paper, no bleed at all with a wet nib. Knocking a star off only because the deckle edge means the pages are not perfectly uniform, which I should have expected from handmade paper.
