Thrown on a heavy hand-spun wheel and fired in an open straw kiln, which is what gives the surface its uneven smoky black. Unglazed and burnished by stone before firing.

About this piece
Thimi potters fire in the street: pots are stacked, covered in rice straw and ash, and burned down over a night. Where the straw sits against the pot the surface goes deep black; where air reached it, it comes out grey or ochre. The mottling is a record of the firing, not decoration.
Unglazed and slightly porous, so water kept in it stays a few degrees cool by evaporation — which is why the form exists.
Burnished with a smooth stone at the leather-hard stage for the low sheen.

Unglazed and porous. Rinse with water only, no detergent, and let it air dry fully. Not dishwasher, microwave or oven safe.
